With the introduction of new electric vehicles, residents of Abu Dhabi will have more convenient methods to go around the city. These environmentally friendly modes of transportation are now available as part of the Smart Mobility Project, which is being carried out by the Department of Municipalities and Transportation (DMT) in collaboration with the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC).

A hybrid bus and tram known as Automated Rapid Transit (ART) runs on electricity and doesn’t produce any harmful exhaust gases. For its introduction, Abu Dhabi’s current infrastructure does not require the addition of any rails or other upgrades. Up to 200 individuals can ride in one of the three carriages that make up the electric cars. Soft seats, air conditioning, and stop announcements all contribute to the passengers’ comfort.

The 14-stop, rail-free high-speed route will be followed by the vehicle on weekends from Reem Mall to Marina Mall. At 10 am, the first shuttle will leave from Al Reem Island, and it will take slightly over an hour to get there. A comprehensive schedule may be available via the Darbi application, and there will be five services per direction throughout the day.

Yas Island and Saadiyat Island have already adopted the same form of driverless automated transportation, with a total of 8 self-driving taxis, 6 small Robobuses, and 3 ARTs operating there as part of the Smart Mobility Project. These 15 electric vehicles have 15 charging outlets available.
